Team Baker Street T-Shirt
Baker Street is a street in Marylebone in London's City of Westminster (NW1) district. Baker Street became famous through the novel character Sherlock Holmes by author Arthur Conan Doyle, written in 1886/1887. Sherlock Holmes lives in the stories under the fictitious address Baker Street 221b, although at the time of Arthur Conan Doyle the street was only numbered up to number 100. Today the subway station Baker Street is decorated in many ways with motifs of Sherlock Holmes. The line, which has been popularly referred to as the Bakerloo suitcase since its opening in 1906, also runs there. During the Second World War, the secret Special Operations Executive (SOE), also known as The Baker Street Irregulars in reference to Sherlock Holmes, had its headquarters at 64 Baker Street. Numerous tourists visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum at 221b Baker Street and the nearby Madame Tussauds Wax Museum every year. In 1978 Gerry Rafferty sang the street in the eponymous rock song of the same name, which is characterised by the saxophone solo played by Raphael Ravenscroft. On September 11, 1971, a bank robbery took place in a branch of Lloyds Bank on Baker Street.
